Vitamin D functions: a precious ally for our body

While it is known that the vitamin D is essential to allow the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, there are many other activities that it carries out inside the body:

virus (1)

Promotes the action of antibodies

Optimizes blood pressure

broken-bone (1)

Prevents bone loss

Increases cognitive functions and memory

heart-beat (1)

Reduces hypertension and relaxes cardio muscles

pancreas (1)

Decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes

But how is Vitamin D absorbed by our body?

The image shows the mechanism of vitamin D absorption in the human body, divided into its main phases

1. Conversion into Calcifediol

In a first step, the liver converts the Vitamin D2 of Shiitake mushrooms into Calcifediol

2. Conversion into active Vitamin D

The kidneys then convert Calcifediol into Calcitriol, the active form of Vitamin D

3. Diffusion in the Body

At this point, the blood system carries Vitamin D throughout the body
